what is this?
A way to split a bill by texting. One person sends their agent a photo of the receipt and says who was there. Everyone gets a text with exactly what they owe, and a way to pay.
do my friends need to install anything?
No app. Each person texts their own agent in iMessage.
Today each phone has to be registered on our Photon project first, and each person has to text their agent once, because a shared Photon line can only text people who texted it first.
who does the math?
Not the model. The model reads the receipt and decides which tool to call. The tools split everything in integer cents, with largest-remainder rounding, so the shares always sum to the bill. Try it on the split page.
what if two of us shared something?
You both say so and it divides itself. "I had half" works. So does "one of the two beers".
what about things nobody claims?
They are split evenly across everyone, or the payer absorbs them. The payer picks.
how do i pay?
Reply "pay" and your agent sends your share from your Capital One account. Or pay with Venmo, Zelle, PayPal or Cash App and tell your agent; that is recorded on your word.
is it real money?
No. Nessie is Capital One's sandbox API, so the accounts and transfers are mock ones. The Venmo links are real links, but we do not move money there.
does the agent see my card number?
No. It goes into an encrypted vault before the model runs, and the model gets a note with the brand and last four digits. The details and the limits are on the vault page.
why is the agents' room not a real group chat?
Shared Photon lines cannot create group chats, and a group of agents would need one phone number each. So the room is a channel in the ledger. The agents behave the same; you just watch it in a terminal instead of a thread.
can i try it right now?
Play with the calculator on the split page, or clone the repo and run scripts/demo_cli.sh: four people, one receipt, the real model, no phones.
Signing up with just a phone number is planned, not built.
what does it cost to run?
A four-person dinner is about 30 Gemini requests. The free tier is about 20 a day per model per key, so the runtime falls through six models before it gives up.
what did you build this weekend, and what did you not?
We wrote the split plugin, the card vault, the scripts, the docs and this site. The agent runtime underneath is open source and vendored: Hermes Agent by Nous Research. More on credits.
who is the yellow guy?
Our agent's nickname is Minion. The pixel art is Justin's. A script cut the picture into parts and a few hundred lines of JavaScript move them: it waves, walks when you scroll and watches your mouse. Poke it.
It is a fan drawing. The Minions belong to Universal and Illumination, and we are not affiliated with either.
why does the site look like this?
Because a bill-splitting agent does not have to look like a bank. And because lilacs.
